Calculator.app won't open

When I try to launch the standard MacOS calculator app, its icon appears in the dock, but it won't open its window, and its menu does not appear in the menu bar (which is greyed out until I focus somewhere else). If I click on it in the dock and choose "Show All Windows" I get "No windows available". I can also choose "Quit" and it quits and disappears from the dock.

The problem has survived a reboot and happens regardless of where I start calculator from. I have macOS Sierra patched up to date. I have no files that look like they belong to calculator in ~/Libraries/Preferences or ~/Libraries/Caches.

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014), macOS Sierra (10.12.6)

The Dock icon is an alias. Please attempt to open it using Spotlight by typing Command + Spacebar and then type Calculator and see if it launches. If it does that means the Dock Icon is corrupt. Simply drag the iCon to the Desktop so it disappears per the directions in https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201730

Then navigate to the Applications folder locate the Calculator app and drag it to the Dock per the same article.

Spotlight, Applications in Finder, I have even tried the terminal command line (/Applications/Calculator.app/Contents/MacOS/Calculator), the result is the same: a dock icon appears, but no window.

I tried dragging the icon to the desktop as per the linked article, and the word "Remove" appears, but the icon is not removed from the dock - when I release the mouse, the icon snaps back to the dock. But it disappears if I choose "Quit" from its context menu.

Please post an EtreCheckreport of your system. We can then look for obvious issues. Please click the link, download the app and run the report. Once you have the report, please copy and paste it as your reply to this post.
