I just called Apple Care and they said the extended warranty was not true. They said smart Keyboards are covered only for 1 year from the date of purchase. The senior advisor at Apple Care was even snarky with me. Apparently all the articles about the warranty extensions are false because they do not appear on Apple’s official extended warranty page.

My local Apple Store made me purchase a new keyboard because they could not replicate my problems (I brought it in before the warranty expired).

Be firm with them if you have to. They did not try to make a duplication of the problem, in fact I was very surprised how quickly they agreed with me. Told me they might have to order new keyboards if not in stock but ended up that they had both. I would be glad to send you a copy of the receipt for proof if there is a way to do that. My local store is in Fairlawn Ohio at the Summit Mall store. The name of the extra warranty is (Quality Program (E1)). The tech person was (Employee 1262606822).

While I understand that the steps outlined in the article are supposed to help, it's only a temporary help. There have been times when I have to do those steps 3 and 4 times an hour.

The reason I bought this iPad is for Apple's reliability and intuitiveness. I get neither when it comes to this keyboard.

I am seriously considering a generic one that DOES work without constant restarting and other time-wasting maneuvers.

Hi, I had the exact same problem with both of our iPad Pros and the Smart Keyboards. Go to the Apple Store nearest you and make an appointment with the Genius Bar. The store greeter won't know about this so she will inform you that there is only a 1 year warranty on accessaries but there is a 3 year warranty from date of purchase program for Smart Keyboards because of this problem. The keyboard must fall into a certain serial number range but both of mine were close to 2 years old and the Apple Store in my local areareplaced both of them today with no charge to me. This is not a well publicized warranty. Be sure to take your receipt for the purchase with you.
