how to retrieve photos from old phone

hello.

I recently got a replacement phone from apple as my old one was broke.

When giving them my old phone they got me to back it up there and then before they erased it as i had never backed it up before.

When doing this, they said that something about if my photos were over 5gb they would not be backed up on iCloud? i don't know if thats true.

But when i set up my new replacement phone, there was no new iCloud backup to use and was only a backup from the date i got my old phone.

So long story short, all my photos and videos are gone.

Although other things like note, contacts and music stayed.

Is there anything i can do to retrieve these photos from my old iPhone?
