How Do I get imrssage to work on my iphonev8plus? i turn it on in settings but still seems text messages instead of imessages

IMessages only work between apple devices if you send to a Android phone it will go as a text message.

Sending iMessages requires:

• You must be on Wi-Fi or on a cellular network that supports iMessage.
• The recipient must be using an Apple device and set up to receive iMessages at the address you specify.

But, are you each using your own Apple ID, as sberman was asking? Bc, I concur, if so - that will cause problems

Does your son have his own, unique Apple ID? He absolutely should ... Apple IDs are not meant to be shared.
