How to use microsoft wireless mobile 1850 mouse with macbook air

I am trying to use the mouse with macbook air. This mouse is non Bluetooth, has only usb. When i plug in the mouse, the trackpad stops functioning and i can not continue to do the necessary steps for recognizing the mouse to the macbook air
