Cannot send mail the username or password for smtp.cox.net is incorrect

Cannot send mail the username or password for smtp.cox.net is incorrect. I have tried every suggestion on the internet. I’ve called Cox. No help. I can receive but not send mail through Cox. All my Apple devices are affected.

iPhone 6s, iOS 11.2.5

You probably have not entered the password for the outgoing mail server. You need to enter your user ID and password twice; once for incoming mail, and again for outgoing mail. Don't be fooled by the fact that it says "optional."

I wold check the SMTP settings. I know on Comcast they don't use port 25 and you normally have to adjust that setting. In fact looking at their website it shows this:

Use one of the following outgoing SMTP ports:

  • 587 with TLS enabled
  • 465 with SSL enabled and check the authentication box, if available

I would check to make sure your Apple devices are set that way. Weird that it would change all the sudden though.
