Apple Watch 2 touch screen unresponsive

Hi there

Did the latest update to watch yesterday morning. Watch seemed ok during the day but did a reboot in the evening for no reason - this morning I have woken to a non responsive screen - cannot enter the unlock code. Tried to reset the phone and set up as a new phone - can’t complete the process as unable to create an unlock code. Does this sound like a hardware issue or the update has caused as issue?

If the screen remains unresponsive, then hardware service may be required. I suggest that you contact Apple Support (mail-in service may be available, if required), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider for assistance:

Hi

If your Apple Watch cannot be unlocked via the normal process, then follow these steps to erase it and re-pair it with your iPhone:

  • Connect the Apple Watch to its charging cable, connected to power.
  • Whilst keeping the Apple Watch on the charger and connected to power:
    • Press and hold the side button until you see the Power Off slider.
    • Press firmly on Power Off (do not try to slide it - just press down more firmly than a normal tap), release your finger and then tap on Erase all content and settings and confirm.
  • Re-pair your Apple Watch using the Watch app on your iPhone, choosing to Restore from Backup if offered the option.

If your Apple Watch does not respond to touchscreen inputs as expected, then the following steps may help:

Remove any screen protector, case or bumper that you may have fitted to your Apple Watch.

Clean and dry your Apple Watch, being sure to follow Apple's cleaning instructions:

Restart both your iPhone and your Apple Watch, turning both off together, then restarting your iPhone first:

Change your Dock settings to show your favourite apps rather than Recents:

If the issue persists, next unpair and re-pair your Apple Watch again:

Test by changing notification settings and/or by removing watch face complications and third-party apps:

If the issue persists, then I suggest that you contact Apple Support (remote diagnostics and/or mail-in service may be available, if required), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider for assistance:
