Adjusting automation curves in small increments

At one time I know there were modifier keys that provided finer control over automation points and curves, at one point it was shift... at another time it was control-option... but neither of these seem to be working now. In particular, I'm attempting to make fine adjustments to the Gain effect, which seems to jump around at increments of +/-1.6db; definitely not what one would want when making small adjustments to the overall loudness of a track.

Does anyone know what the trick is under GB 10.x to make small adjustments to automation points and curves?

Ah ha!! It is now, simply, shift. However, you don't get immediate feedback when you start to drag. The cursor does change, but you have to drag for a while before the value appears and begins to change.
