iOS 11 move icons on dock

When I try to move an icon on the iOS 11 dock to the left, it instead moves to the far right

iPad Pro Wi-Fi + Cellular, iOS 11.2.5

Thank you. I tried that, but no luck. After some experimenting, I discovered that the problem was that I had the maximum number of icons in the dock. I took one out and then I could move the icons left and right as expected. Then I added back the removed icon. Bit of a pain, but it works.
