Hi Nenny, don't get too excited as I don't have a solution but as I've had the same problem as you for the past 12 days and am cross eyed with all the reading I've done on how to get rid of it... all to no avail BUT I have slowed it down to only cropping up every half hour or so now... I am old too and NOT computer literate so will just say what I've learned. Pref take a photo of this on your phone so you know what you are doing. Empty your history by going to the very top of this window and under History very bottom entry should be clear history-click on it then Close safari and all your windows Go to top left of screen to the Apple sign and choose shut down click on it. Give it a few minutes to shut down then very important hold down the shift key on the left of the keyboard below the caps lock key.... at the same time restart your mac and don't leave go of the shift key until the window starts to open. It will be grayed out and it will show a rectangle box with a progress bar.... then you can release the shift key. This will put your mac in safe mode which will force it to examine the files it needs to start and it honestly has stopped the Stags.Bluekai from loading every time you open a new tab. I keep checking here to see if a proper cure has been reported but am much happier now. Hope it helps, Luv Laurie. PS if you are worried about starting in safe mode instructions.... please google it to reassure you that this is the way to make your mac start in safe mode.

stags.bluekai.com is not a virus or an ad popup so all the usual suggestions will not work. It is an adserver that certain websites, including eBay, link to. Because the version of Safari on Mavericks 10.9.x is outdated, the security certificates that allow it to link to certain sites have expired and Apple is not renewing them. Apple wants you to update to its newest version of macOS. That message that keeps popping up is Safari warning you that its certificate for stags.bluekai.com is out of date and it will appear everytime you go onto eBay and other sites that link to stags.bluekai.com.

You have two choices: Either you update to at least Yosemite (10.10) with a more up to date and supported version of Safari or you stop using Safari as your browser and use Firefox or Chrome instead. All the other messing about with Malwarebytes etc is a waste of time.

You are running Mavericks 10.9.5, so the computer is older than 2 years (yours is probably a 2013?). The Malwarebytes requires a newer OS to install and run so you cannot run it on your old OS.

And, having an ad blocker will not necessarily prevent all popup ads; another problem is your older OS with an older Safari version for which Apple is no longer providing support or security updates. Why have you not updated your OS? You should be able to run Sierra - see this conversation here:

Can I update my mac os x 10.9.5 to macos sierra

This is actually not a malware or adware issue. This problem is, unfortunately, normal with Mac OS X 10.9.

Recently, 10.9 systems began to have problems verifying certificates for certain sites. The bluekai.com sites, as well as the Oracle site (who owns bluekai.com), are among the affected sites.

I am not clear at this point what the cause of the problem is, but I have been able to confirm this behavior on a freshly-installed, clean 10.9 system.

Unfortunately, there are only two options available to you. One is to upgrade or downgrade your system. Mac OS X 10.10 and higher do not suffer from this problem, and strangely, for whatever reason, Mac OS X 10.8 is also not affected.

The other option is to stop using Safari and switch to Chrome or Firefox.

It's not really a pop-up. It's a warning from Safari. From a quick Google search, a similar sort of thing seems to affect all browsers and both Windows and Mac OS. Here is the link to the Wikipedia entry on BlueKai:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BlueKai

It is an Oracle company that services eBay and some other websites in ways that I do not completely understand and is related to advertising. As far as I can tell, in the past it has loaded unobtrusively whenever anyone accessed eBay. To tell you the truth, I appreciate the opportunity to not allow it to load, even though canceling the window so frequently is a bit annoying. It is not a virus and it is not mal-wear (at least not in the usual sense). It certainly has been an opportunity for security companies and others to offer services to remove it. I suspect most of these cause more damage than they repair.

Hello,

First off I just want you to know that Apple products can get viruses although it is very rare and unlikely as Apple Products are very secure.

You shouldn't have a problem at all as long as you didn't download anything or interact with the link.

If this problem occurs again I would just suggest quitting Safari and then reopen Safari.

I hope this helps and have a nice day

First, we are NOT Apple support. These are user to user forums. If you want to talk to Apple support, please contact them.

Second, Malwarebytes is fine and safe. Just to test, I went to the link I had posted and downloaded it. Immediately after that, I got this window automatical

After clicking on Continue, it automatically installed it.

Or, you can try to follow their instructions:

I have no idea why neither of the two would work for you.

So you read the instructions on how to download Sierra in the Apple article and are unable to follow it?

If that is the case, may I suggest that you make an appointment at your nearest Genius Bar. Their service is free of charge; ask them to:

1. help you follow the instructions on how to get rid of the pop up, and

2. help you follow the instructions on how to download and install High Sierra.

Thank you so much Jacob, I have done what you've suggested probaly one hundred times in the last 3 days - over and over again - but EVERYtime I go to eBay and I go there daily as I sell there - this popup appears, I cancel it and it incessantly pops up over and over!! THIS morning I googled it that "stags.bluekai.com" and in the results there was a Youtube "How to Get Rid of it" post which I went to - but the fact there was a misspelling in the heading made me think it could be hackers so I left it and cleared my Safari history, closed and re-launched Safari. But up it popped again - and again - and again. I guess my biggest problem is that I don't understand much of the other question and answer posts on here as I'm not at all tech savvy - but I clearly need help to rid my MacBook Air of this thing. If you have any other ideas I'd be SO grateful - as all my devices are Apple.

Thank you for trying to help me.

I think I should say inistially that my young nephew put Adblocker on BOTH of my Macs - so that is already on this MacBook Air.

I attempted BOTH of your ideas - but I actually couldn't make either of the two things you suggested happen???

Firstly - I tried to so the "How to Block Pop Ups in Safari" at Apple but couldn't find anything to click on to do that once I got to the Apple page from the link you sent ??? How do I do that "How to Block Pop Ups in Safari" ????

Secondly the Malwarebytes program would go to my Downloads OK - but then wouldn't install??? SO I couldn't get any further.

I'm also worried about whether Malwarebytes is a SAFE thing ot site for me to download. How does one know???

I feel way out of my depth trying to do these things suggested - as If they aren't just a thing to click then I'm not clever enough at computer stuff to do this??

I'm really stuck I think,

ANY more ideas - I'll TRY them all.

Many thanks all the same

Nenny

Firstly, Apologies that I didn't KNOW that this was not somehow linked to Apple support. I'm new to this. Never done it before but needed assistance.

I tried your Malwarebytes thingy but it wouldnt proceed - put up a window saying this and wouldn't let me go any further

"This installation requires macOS Yosemite (10.10), El Capitan (10.11), Sierra (10.12) or High Sierra (10.13)."

This is a 2-3 yeaer old MacBook Air laptop OS X 10.9.5 whatever all of that means!!

All I can think is somehow my laptop doesn't have these things it must have to continue with the installation. But if it's annoying you to assist me, then desist - I just need someone who can advise.

I do thank you however for trying.
