how to prevent accidental movement of file on mac book pros

macbook pro mac os high sierra 10.3.3 at times files are pick up as the mouse is passed over and dropped any place is this preventable and by what method

iPhone 4S, iOS 5.1.1

I would first go into System Preferences > Touchpad and turn off the feature of "Tap to Click." This means that to actually select a file, you will have to press down on the trackpad. If that is already off, and just when the cursor passes over things, it highlights them, then you most likely have an issue with the trackpad. Things like liquid under the trackpad, a battery expanding, or a plethora of other issues can cause the trackpad to "ghost click" items.
