MacBook Pro to Dell XPS connection (USB-C)

*Tried to move to MacBook Pro category*

Hey,

We've just purchased a new MacBook Pro 13" with USB-C connection. We also have a new Dell XPS 9650 which also has a USB-C connector.

Having heard that the USB-C connection was in fact used to enter the Matrix, power alien tech etc, I was surprised to find I couldn't just plug each end of a cable into each laptop to allow file transfer.

Is there an easy way on both laptops to set up direct file transfer over USB-C?

Thanks in advanced!

If it were possible to:

'get each computer to connect to the Internet at the same time without recabling'

.. then you already have a perfectly good connection available. It is a Network connection through the Switch portion of your Router.

System Preferences > Sharing > File Sharing ...

... will enable you to share some files FROM the Mac. A similar process to turn on Sharing on the PC, and Finder will provide Access to its files as if they were local.
