apple watch is opening the workout app?

My  watch keep opening the workout app. Why is doing this and how I can stop this?

iPhone 7 Plus, iOS 10.3.1, iOS 10.3.2

The following steps may help:


If you have ever previously used the Workout app, then check whether there is an active or paused activity within it and, if so, end it.


Check your Apple Watch settings for what is shown upon waking the screen:

  • On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > General > Wake Screen.
  • Under the heading "On Screen Wake Show Last App", select your preferred behaviour. For example:
    • To have your Apple Watch display the time on your currently selected watch face rather than showing the last app used, select "While In Session".
      • Note that session-based apps that are still in session (such as during a workout) will still be shown upon waking the screen.
    • To always have the last app used shown, select "Always".


Check whether the app is being opened as a result of accidental watch face interactions.

  • For example, if your Apple Watch face includes a complication for the Workout app, then you may be opening the app by accidentally interacting with the complication.
  • It may help to test by temporarily removing the complication from your watch face and/or by selecting a different watch face that does not include that complication:
