Occasionally the bottom icon bar with favorites and recently viewed apps disappears. I have to restart iPad to get it back. why is this happening? How do I get it back without restarting?

Just discovered, after playing Angry Birds Friends, the dock was gone again but when I rotated the home button back to the right while in landscape mode, the dock reappeared. Still beats a restart.
Have same problem and like many others, dock reappeared when turned to portrait. Just found out that if I turn from portrait and put the home button on the left, the dock returned. Obvious discrimination against those who are right handed (sarcasm turned on).
Right now, you can’t. It’s a glitch with ios11 and the dock. The reboot method is a temporary fix until Apple comes up with a software fix.
