First thing to do is reset the iPod and see if that doesn't clear it up... To reset your 5th generation iPod with video: 1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.) 2. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step. The above is Apple's instructions. I would add that you want to hold the two buttons a good long time like 15-20 seconds before declaring it a no-go. As it says above, sometimes if it doesn't reset the first try... try, try again. If that doesn't work, then do a Restore on it. If after a Restore, it still is stuck on Hold, then you may have a hardware problem like a broken hold switch or the little sliding part slipped off the switch inside. Patrick
No offence, but rabble already tried all those things. The only thing I think might work is opening up the iPod and re-adjusting the switch, but search for some instructions before doing so.
No offense taken, especially since if you look again you will see my reply was to iPwn's post, not Rabble's. As you might note, iPwn didn't mention anything about Resetting or Restoring. So I will stick with my original post as good advice for the first steps to take in trouble shooting the issue. 🙂 Patrick
i'm having the same problem the hold button moves but it doesn't come off of hold i plug it in and it charges but it still says that the hold function is on i tried the reset but it doesn't work
I just fixed my ipod which was also stuck in hold mode by moving the front cover back and forth until I heard a click. I was just sort of wiggling it trying to work the cover free and I checked the hold button and it was responsive again as I toggled it back and forth. i hope this helps you.
