My visual voicemail frequently (*very* frequently, but not always) plays the wrong message - often more than once - when a message is tapped. Sometimes the message is the last message that was played. This results in a frustrating waste of time. Anyone have an idea of what is causing it or how to fix it? Thanks in advance.

I fixed on mine by turning off wifi calling, waiting a minute, then playing the message and it was corrected.
I could then turn wifi calling back on.

I have been dealing with Apple and my carrier since the beginning of January 2018. I have spent endless hours with advanced AppleCare representatives as well as network advanced tech support. They each point a finger at each other. The phone has been deleted and set up as new two times, every setting on the phone has been changed, messages erased, etc. It is beyond frustrating. The wrong voice message will play on different numbers. I wish someone could figure out what the issue is. I should not have this problem with a new iPhone 8.
Indeed, this has been a problem for me for about a year and a half. How is it that the largest IT company on the planet can't get Voicemail sorted out in first patch??? Don't Apple employees have this problem too??
What’s causing it is another bug Apple is blissfully unaware of. Mine does the same thing, it’s useless.

I've never had that problem on any of my phones. Voice mail is a cell carrier feature.
I have had the same problem many times. I have an iPhone 6+, I hit deleted messages and then clear all of them, then go back to my voicemails and everything works fine until I get a buildup of deleted voicemails. I repeat this process and all is good till the next time.
