Usually, it means the file you are trying to copy is damaged/corrupted or is too long for the destination media. If the external HDD is formatted for FAT then the largest file you can transfer is 2GBs.


If you are trying to transfer a group of files and got the error, then you should be told what the file is. Try copying just that file and no others. This sometimes will work if the file isn't really corrupt. Also, see Mac Error Codes.

It is not a Windows formatted drive. That 2 year old WD MyBook has been used 100s of times with my iMac and Macbook Pro and I have never seen this error until today. I am going to unplug all 4 ext drives and start over and try just the one problem drive (later tonight). BTW - I highly appreciate your help. Have a blessed day - what's left of it. I will continue as soon as I can.
