Text messages going to old iPhone?

I have an phone 6, it is linked to an old iphone4 via a security app that allows me to use old iPhone as a camera when I am not home. It has no sim in it but in the last couple of days some of my incoming texts are going to the old iPhone and not the new one, it seems random. I am sitting at home and hear old iPhone chime a message has arrived but it hasn’t gone to my newer phone. I missed a very important message because of this the other day. How do I stop it and only get messages on my iphone6?

iPhone 4, iOS 10.0.3

These messages can't be carrier based SMS texts then.

The messages must be Apple's Messages and are arriving because you have an Apple ID registered with Messages on the iPhone. Check your "reachable at" entries on the old phone.
