How to hide hot spot

With the latest iOS upgrade, I can no longer hide my Hot Spot from the phone my son has. Even if I have it turned off in settings, he can turn my hotspot back on from his iPhone and connect to it without my knowing. So, how do I turn it off so he can’t access it ?

iPhone 6, iOS 11.2.2

This is a Continuity feature called Instant Hotspot. The requirements for enabling this feature are as follows:

  • Your iPhone or iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular) has an activated carrier plan providing Personal Hotspot service.
  • Each device is signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID.
  • Each device has Bluetooth turned on.
  • Each device has Wi-Fi turned on.

Make any of these conditions false to prevent this from happening. I would recommend what Briansyddall has said and not share an Apple ID, as this can cause multiple problems/annoyances beyond enabling your hotspot.
