apple wired headphones button now rejects calls instead of picking them up?

Usually when I used to press the button of wired headphones when recieving a call, it used to answer it, but since somedays back whenever I am using headphones and I receive a call and I try answering it by pressing the button, it either rejects it or ends it, what’s wrong with it? Also I can't find the option anywhere in the settings?

Hi,

Are you sure you aren't pressing the button for too long?

Because you can ignore an incoming phone call by holding down the Center Button for roughly two seconds. After you release the button, two beeps will let you know the call has been successfully declined.

It might also be that the button is faulty because of debris stuck in it so when you quickly press it it actually presses for longer than you would want.
