iPad Pro black screen, force-rebooting not helping

Just got this iPad Pro two days ago. This morning I woke up, and the screen is solid black. It would make sounds when I plug it in, etc, but it's not "responsive" in that there's nothing at all on the screen.

I've tried holding the wake/home buttons to reboot it, and I can see that the screen "cycles" or something after ~10 seconds, but then it continues to be black (no logo, etc). It almost appears as if the backlight is on, but the screen is fully black, so I can tell it's turning off and on, but nothing else.

Is there any hope of a software fix for this or am I going to have to go through apple support?

This is my first apple product in ~5 years. Not exactly a warm "welcome home" from the company...

Hello Hickeroar,

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities for help with your iPad. It is unfortunate that your new device is not acting as you expect, but please try the troubleshooting provided in the following help article: If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won't turn on or is frozen - Apple Support

If you still have issues after trying those troubleshooting steps, the article states:

  • The screen remains black, but the device chirps when you unmute it and connect it to power.
  • Your screen is on, but it doesn't respond when you tap, slide, or try other gestures.
  • You can't force your device to restart because a button is broken or stuck.
  • Your device is stuck on the Apple logo, displays a solid color, or isn't recognized in iTunes.

Thanks and have a wonderful day.
