Read receipts turning back to delivered

So when I send a message to one of my friends, it first says delivered and turns into Read as normal when he opens the message and turns back to delivered somehow as if he never read the message, but not because of something wrong with iMessage. He found a way where you can unread messages basically. Need help in how I can do this! Please and thank you :)

Read receipts on for an individual just stop working Read receipts are currently turned on for a specific individual however at times they will completely just stop sending for iMessages. When you look at the contact information in the conversation they still appear to be turned on but not sending. If you toggle them off and back on they will start sending again. Anyone else seen issues like this before? Thanks!

Erratic Read Receipts Starting this morning when i receive text messages on the iMessage app my wife’s phone nor iPad are sending read receipts to my phone or iPad. I’ve have her double check the settings on both devices specifically under messages and under my contact info and in both places, read receipts are turned on. I had her restart both devices, no help. I had her completely log out of the iPad, no help. I had her completely reset the iPad to factory settings, no help. I had her log out of iMessage on both devices, no real help. Now what’s really weird is that occasionally, it will pop up as read, but with out changing any settings, it reverts back to just showing delivered. Just wondering if it’s from a recent update. Thanks in advance Matt

iMessage read receipts and phone off A user I iMessage with has his phone turned off (I had send as sms enabled) and now our messages are showing as green. I also cannot toggle my “read receipts”. Is this because the last message that went through was as an SMS? Will read receipts return once an iMessage has successfully gone through?

Hi Salty_Puncake,

If your device is on the latest version of iOS, open the Settings application and navigate to Messages. Toggle off Send Read Receipts.

You can still enable this feature for individual contacts. Open the Phone application and navigate to Contacts > [individual contact] > Send Message > Info button (top right). Toggle on Send Read Receipts.
