Homepod setup fails: WPA/WPA2 Error

Trying to setup Homepod. Keep getting an error saying "You must be connected to a WPA/WPA2 Personal Wi-Fi network". My iPhone X is connected to a WPA2 network. Have tried resetting phone, router & Homepod but still getting the error. Please help!

Update: Got it to work by resetting homepod and going into the WIFI info screen and switching both auto-join and auto login to off. Went back to the setup and got past that incompatible screen. Not sure why having both those switched on would do anything.

Hours on Apple Support with no answer, even from “senior level” techs. Promised a call-back in 48+ hour’s. Searched forums & found the “turn offf Auto-join & Auto-login settings” solution. After turning off those settings I reset my Home Pod with a long hold on the central button & voila! Immediate successful set up. Give it a try.

I may have solved this very frustrating issue... I have an iPhone X which would not connect to HomePod due to "Wifi Incompatibility".

Long story short, simply restore your iPhone from iTunes and after doing so it should connect just fine. Worked for me! Make sure to back-up first though. This problem seems to be due to a software issue on the iPhone.

The Apple Tech Support guy (who has been excellent btw) just called me back to say that he's just solved a similar problem: HomePod won't setup via iPhone X but when they switched to an iPhone 8 they had instant success - so it sounds like somehow the iPhone X is to blame... bizarre.

If I wasn't so busy right now, I'd try it this evening - but we have to watch as much stuff as possible from our dying Sky box before the engineer replaces it with a new one tomorrow 🙂

Modern life, eh?

PROBLEM SOLVED

I had this exact same Homepod setup issue and solved it simply by unplugging then re-plugging my Homepod. Then I went into my iPhone WiFi settings and scrolled to the bottom and turned off Ask to Join Networks. Then I selected the network to which I'm attached where inside there I turned off Auto-Join and Auto-login.

Homepod setup then started and now I'm enjoying some wonderful sounds of music.

NOTE: As a first step it might not be necessary to unplug and re-plug your Homepod but that's what I did so I included that first step. Also, I noticed my iPhone had quickly switched on Auto-Join so you might want to double-check to make sure Auto-Join is switched off.

Enjoy your marvelous new Apple Homepod!!!
