How do I prevent my emails being grouped together by 'threads'?

My email is making me crazy!! Anytime I have a reply or I respond to an email, it is all saved in one email message, often with some of the threads missing. I want to have each email saved separately along with my sent replies saved separately to my 'sent' mailbox.

I have checked the settings and unchecked anything related to 'threads' in both my mac mini mailbox and my iPad mail.

Can anyone help me??
