Mail app mishandling emails

Sometimes, when I open an email, using the apple Mail app, all of the other emails in my inbox will appear as a thread with the email I just opened. It doesn’t happen right away, but rather after a few seconds all the emails pop up in the thread. Then I’m forced to scroll through hundreds of emails to find the one I was looking at. How can I fix this problem?

Opening emails When I open an email, and click on the content, a narrow band appears on the right of the screen, showing the content. I can’t expand this to full screen, so it’s difficult to read it. Attached is a screenshot showing the issue. this has only been happening for a couple of months.

Mail randomly doesn’t send emails from gmail addresses In my Apple mail app I have gmail addresses set up. I have recently been experiencing an issue where emails sent from those gmail addresses simply disappear after trying to send them. Not in sent, not in outbox, just gone. It is random as to which sending gmail address and also as to recipient address. Anyone have experience with this?

Settings > Mail > Organise by thread [Disable]
