Final Cut Pro X "Share" vs. "Send to Compressor"

I've been using Final Cut Pro and Compressor for a few years. I have a project where the incoming media is a ProRes 422 file that was created with several graphic overlays that contain text. After I make any edits I need to, if I compress the file using "send to compressor", and then using the preset "video sharing services > hd 1080p", the final video has little jagged edges all along the curves of the graphic and text. However, if I choose "share", it is as smooth as can be (glorious!).

What preset, or what am I missing, can I use to have Compressor create a jagged free version, like the "share" method?

(I apologize if this question has been asked before - I don't think I'm the only one that has had this problem, but I didn't see anything after several searches)

There are many different options for Share, and many more if you send to Compressor. Compressor allows for a lot more tweaking of export settings.

The question here, though, is knowing what settings are you using in either option; you failed to mention that.

Identical settings should produce identical results irrespective of you going through Compressor or not. In other words your problem is not a failure of Compressor, is that you have used different settings for different exports.

Try sharing Master File from FCP Xand in settings choose Source. This will produce the highest quality but a large file. Then do the same but this time select H264.

Until you know more about codecs, data rates and such, you are not taking any advantage out of using Compressor.

I seem to have found what is going on, and it's somewhat a beginner's error, but also an assumption error, so I will explain what I found in case anyone else stumbles accross this.

First off, the error was that the original media was interlaced - I still have no idea how or why that happened since it was recorded with blackmagic video assist... but that's another story.

So, when I used the "share" method from within FCP and chose "Apple Devices 1080p" it automatically de-interlaced the media, or at least set the field dominance to progressive. But when I use the compressor method, and choose "HD 1080p" it does NOT de-interlace the media. Therefore the jagged lines (interlaced) appear even though the settings are the same.

I like the fact that FCP does that automatically, knowing that if you select a "p" format, you want it to be de-interlaced, but why wouldn't compressor do the same??

Good point - other than stating which built-in preset I used in compressor, I didn't indicate what settings were used for the share method.

I used the "video sharing services > hd 1080p" in compressor, and the "share > apple devices 1080p" within FCP. The share method works perfectly.

Both settings appear to be exactly the same - at least the settings that are displayed and able to be modified. They are both 1920x1080 | 29.97fps, H264, Stereo AAC.
