I am not able to connect Mac to cloud because it claims there's a problem with my gmail password. After re-entering it and verifying with google, it doesn't complete the process.

What "cloud" are you trying to connect to? If you are trying to connect to a non-Apple service, and you have Two-Step Verification or Two-Factor Authentication set up for your Apple account, then you need to use an App-specific password instead of your Apple ID password to sign in: Using app-specific passwords - Apple Support
