Invited user HomePod setup

I just discovered that the HomePod can only be setup and linked to the iPhone of the Apple ID that owns the Home defined in the Home app. I would really like to have my wife’s Apple ID linked to the HomePod since she’s going to be the primary user of the device. Is there anyway to do that, so itis her iPhone and Apple ID thats used?

By the sound of it, it might be best to re-set the HomePod.

For this case I would suggest re-setting it the second way:

  1. Unplug HomePod, then plug it back in.
  2. Press and hold the top of HomePod. Make sure that you keep your finger on the top of HomePod the entire time. If you lift your finger, you'll need to start over.
  3. As you press the top of HomePod, the white spinning light will turn red and Siri will say that your HomePod is about to reset.
  4. Keep pressing the top of HomePod untill you hear three beeps.

Then set the HomePod up with the "Main" Persons iPhone that will be the main user of the HomePod.

I had a similar situation. I’m the owner of the existing Home, but my mother is sick and always at home. She will be the primary user of the HomePod and I want the personal interactions to be associated to her account. So I had her setup a Home under her account, add the HomePod to it, and then invite me to the Home she set up. She’s already a member of the Home I set up, so she’s able to control lights, etc. via voice command. It may not be ideal, but it works without issue. Since we’re both members of both “Homes” we can both control both. But any messages that are sent from the HomePod appear to the recipient to come from my mother. Messages to my mom can then be read to her by Siri on the HomePod. Ultimately I may just transition all the accessories in the first Home to the second Home and consolidate, but for now, this works. Hope this helps!

Cheers,

Braden

I don’t believe this solves the original question. My partner bought the HomePod and will be the primary user of it, but since I set up the home he cannot set up the HomePod with his AppleID. He is already has been an invited Home user with HomeKit, with editing privileges. Even with that, I HAD to set it up from my iPhone. When he tried it just said that only the owner of the home could set up the HomePod, and didn’t let him continue. I’ve since, after setting it up with my iPhone, replaced the music account on the device with his information, but it is still attached to my AppleID as far as personal requests and all go. Not ideal.

I called support for this exact same question yesterday. I was told I would have to delete the current Home in homekit of which I am the ‘owner’ and set up a new one with my wife’s appleID. If that is a correct answer, that’s just nuts. The pain of getting everything thing set back up is just not acceptable. I hope that support center response was incorrect.

Hello ^-^

You can do this via the "Home" app on iOS (iPhone or iPad) First open the app and click on the little arrow on the top left side on the app (above the room name)

User uploaded file

Now a "Add Home" window will pop up, you want to move to the section "People" where you can see all the people who can use devices within this section below this is a invite button click "Invite"

All you have to do is either type is a email address or click the "+" icon to the right to add people from your contacts if you have "Family" set up they will be display below.

I have the exact same issue. I've reset HomePod after ensuring my wife has full ownership / admin privileges in the Home app. Again, during setup HomePod insisted on my iPhone as the "one who set up the Home." I've changed the HomePod to her AppleID in the details section of the HomePod in Home but this only links to her music and podcasts. I want to fully link it for her contacts, messages, reminders, notes, etc. to be useful to her on HomePod.

The current setup limitations are not ideal indeed.
