What eGPU's are compatible with iMac mid-2010 in order to run multiple displays

I would like to connect 4-6 (if possible, and at least more than 1 external display) displays to iMac mid-2010. Scouring the web I see that I would need an external GPU (eGPU) and looks like macOS High Sierra would support that, although I'm not sure if the hardware (iMac mid-2010) makes a difference. Would anyone know if this is possible, and if yes, would you have any recommendations on the eGPU and graphics card?

Many people suggest to get a eGPU with Thunderbolt but the iMac mid-2010 doesn't have Thunderbolt and it has FireWire instead, not sure if that will work.

Also, the 4-6 external displays will be used to display data, thus it's not meant for high intensity processing like gaming or video editing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Matrox may have some offerings that might work for you. 2010 iMacs have the mini Display port, connector looks identical to Thunderbolt, but is for video only.

Also, since you only have one mini Display port, if you want more, you would have to use a USB interface:

I have never tried either of these, I imagine the miniDisplay port option would perform better, but if you don't really care about that, the USB options, which will be limited to USB2 speeds on your particular model iMac, should work fine as well.

Hope this helps. If you try either of these, would be nice to hear a report back on what your experience is.

Hi CountryGirl56 And Glen D.,

Thank you for your prompt replies and the suggested solution. I like the Matrox solution however it's very expensive for my budget. The Matrox option seems like it will work and I will have to evaluate it more carefully. If I do try it out, I will be sure to report back so the rest of the community can benefit. Thank you so much for the suggestions!
