Apple Car Play won’t work in my Honda since IOS upgrade

Ever since I upgraded my iPhone 7 to IOS 11, Apple Car Play won’t work on the touch screen of my 2017 Honda. Basically I have to do everything through the phone itself. My dealer says that Honda hasn’t updated their software to work with the new IOS yet, but that’s hard to believe. That would mean that every new car they sell doesn’t work with Car Play. Is this true? Does anyone have a solution to the problem?

I contacted Apple about this issue too and got their usual arrogant reply. They told me to take my car back to the dealer (as it doesn't have Wifi for an update) and they must update their software. Apparently dealerships should now expect massive queues round the block whilst people take their cars back into the garage to fix a problem Apple created.

As my car is more expensive than my phone (by a long shot) then I will be moving to Android in April when I am due an upgrade.

I have the exact same vehicle and dealing with the same issue. In order to use my navigation I have to type everything into my phone and to move between apps have to do so thru the phone. Car Play has been buggy since about mid January with my vehicle and just when I feel confident that its working fine again then it stops. The vehicle is much more necessary than the phone so am thinking I might be jumping ship to Droid as well.

I am having the same issue with my Honda CR-V 2017. My car doesn't detect my iPhone 6. I am using the latest iOS and Apple cable to connect to the usb port on my car. Carplay is buggy with latest iOS 11.3.1.

It was fine with iOS 11.3. Then, I had Carplay issues iOS 11.2 and iOS 11.1. I have to keep on reseting my iPhone using power and home button.

iOS is buggy and Apple needs to fix it. If carplay with one release of iOS, the next iOS breaks it. Right now, iOS 11.3.1 is breaking it.

I have been using Apple devices for the last decade. Apple needs to step their game up here, otherwise I have no choice to switch to Pixel or Galaxy.

Thank you for bringing this up!! I have been so frustrated with my car. I took it to my Honda dealer and went so far as to replace the entire audio unit since they said that was the issue... come to find out it is just the iPhone software. We tested several iPhones and anything 7 or newer does not work, but 6 and older work. I cannot believe Apple or Honda have not come out with a fix yet...

I have had similar problems with iphone/Honda compatibility except my issue is that my HD radio resets itself to the factory defaults for both the FM and AM preset buttons approximately every 2-3 weeks. Honda insists it is my iphone 6. I had a 2017 CR-V AWD Touring purchased in July 2017 and after 10 months of not being able to resolve the problem, the dealer actually took my 17 back on a trade and I repurchased a 2018 3 weeks ago. I am sorry to say that the radio in the 18 has done the exact same thing just last Friday right after my iphone 6 updated to 11.4 that morning, which honestly points me to Apple being the problem. I am now in the situation of needing to purchase a new phone that I can feel confident will be compatible with my new car and stay that way! Does anyone have input on whether or not the newer iphone X is more compatible or do I need to consider non-Apple products??

This is interesting to read your test results! I already posted a reply to the main thread but I have to comment here also because it's interesting to learn that the newer iphones would not work yet the older ones would. I received mixed messages from my Honda dealer's service team and Honda Corp. (I had a case opened with them because my radio issue was going on 10 months without a resolution.) One said my phone was too old, the other said it was because my operating system was too current. I too had the entire audio unit replaced and prior to that the tuner assembly. Of course things got broken each time one of these things was replaced. Now in a whole new vehicle that's a year newer I am having the same problem. So I'm ditching my iphone 6 and need to figure out a replacement. Reading this thread and your post has me thinking I can't count on an Apple product to work with my Honda. Disappointing that two of the most popular brands in the US can't be compatible.

I am having these issues as well. I have a 2018 Honda CRV EX-L and an iPhone 7 with OS 11.4. Are any of you also experiencing issues with the Bluetooth? When I’m in CarPlay mode after about 2 minutes, the call gets distorted (it sounds fine to me, but the person I’m talking to can’t hear me). When I use the regular bluetooth on the car it’s fine. So I’m assuming it’s a CarPlay issue. I’m trying to figure out if it’s the phone (like the other issues) or could it be the car?

Thanks!
