Voices are fuzzy on iPhone 5s

iPhone 5s always worked fine until two months ago. With some calls other person voice sounds fuzzy to the point I have to hang up. It’s emabarassing to keep asking “What did you say?” How can I remedy this annoying problem? Please give steps to follow to fix voice so listening to another person doesn’t lead to more problems and misunderstandings.
