Depending on your mail provider, you could have this option on their e-mail website page on your computer.
To my knowledge, there is no option using Apple Mail app on your iphone.
But, as you know, when you open trash or spam folders on your iP-SE, if you tap on edit button, you can delete all the content of those folders.

I use gmail too, and you're perfectly right.
Some time ago, someone, using a different mail provider (but unfortunately I cant remember which one) told me that he was able to set this opportunity, but not with Apple Mail app, only using the mail provider website settings.
Thanks for sharing your experience, netmouser.
Have a nice weekend.

I've since explored in gmail. While you can auto delete Spam with a filter, the emails go to Trash like any email that is deleted. Gmail does not allow immediate auto delete of Trash, the reason seems to be people get really angry when something is deleted 'forever" and they can't recover that. Go figure! Spam and Trash email is deleted by the gmail system when 30 days old. So I found a way to auto delete Spam, but it just shows up in Trash. Both gmail and iPhone have no way to auto delete Trash.
