I think some folks at Apple were getting the wrong script when speaking with customers - or possibly the advance/test versions they had, contained a user removable/serviceable power cord? But yeah, no, this one clearly is firmly attached on mine.

That's be my thought that earlier review devices may have had removable power cables - unless things are different for differernt international markets.

The official, latest answer (from 9to5mac, which got the answer from an Apple Store) is: no, unfortunately.

Hope that helps a little?

What are you talking about? it most certainly is removable all over internet and youtube. you are living in the past buddy, catch up or the world is going to just pass you by.

Pretty much anything can be disassembled. The more important question is, should you do so. Apple does not, as I understand it, view the cord as user removable. Therefore, if you damage the HomePod in the course of forcibly yanking it out, the damage wouldn't be covered by warranty.

The HomePod power cord is officially not user serviceable. This is an official Apple support community. It's probably not violating any policies to say "you CAN take it out, look at this video where someone did it!" but I can also show you a video where someone took apart their iPhone (voids warranty, not user serviceable, probably a dumb thing to do for most people), smashed their iPhone in a blender, or any number of stupid things. It doesn't make those things official Apple policy and you will most likely void your warranty removing the power cable. This is a warning for folks who might be curious about the official deal. Apple would not design a user-serviceable cable like that. That's not Apple's style. Anyone who's owned Apple products for decades can tell you that cable was designed to stay in. Period.

Also, in the second line of the Forbes article:

"Update: Now updated to reflect the fact that Apple does not advise removing the cable from the back of the HomePod. So don't do it!"

Please, please, PLEASE do not go spreading misinformation in this forum. Forbes had an early-release model. It's possible that the model they had contained a removable plug. The released version is not designed to be removed by the end user.

It's fairly commonsense but: "Pull the plug—not the cord—when disconnecting from the outlet." If there's not an obvious plug to pull, DON'T PULL THE CORD! It's a safety thing. Most people know this. If you don't know it, you're being told it now.

Also, from decades of purchasing Apple products, if a cable is designed to be removed it NEVER, EVER ships connected to the device. It always ships separately, usually in a pretty coil (although the "pretty coil" thing is actually a newer development), and you are the "instrument of change" installing the plug in the socket for the first time.

When a cord/cable is designed NOT to be removed, it will ship connected to the device. As in the case of the HomePod.
