iTunes playlist won't burn to 80 min CD

In Oct 2017, I burned a 1 hr and 19 minute iTunes playlist music CD. I actually made three different copies of the same playlist. Now (Feb 2018) I try to burn the same playlist, and it says it's too big for the CD. It's the SAME playlist and the SAME blank CD media.

I deleted six minutes from the playlist. Still won't burn the remaining 73 minute playlist.

I started over from my iTunes library and created a new-named playlist with the same songs. Still won't burn all the songs.

I don't understand. As far as I know, the only thing different from Oct 2017 and Feb 2018 is that I downloaded iTunes version 12.7.3.46 in Jan 2018. Is this new version my problem?

See the iTunes installers section of the Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates and reinstall the last version that worked correctly for you. All versions of 12.7.x released so far use the same database layout so switching between them should be relatively simple.

There was a general issue burning CDs with iTunes 12.7.2.x for Windows at anything over 2x speed.

iTunes 12.7.3.46 for Windows appears to burn CDs normally at full speed and with mixed formats.

It can be downloaded from https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/. Some regional sites may supply an older version.

When burning or printing use the right-click context menu on the playlist in the sidebar. File > Burn Playlist to Disc still seems to be unreliable and may attempt to burn the wrong list.

Check that you're not adding gaps between songs that might take you over the limit.

I have EXACTLY the same problem, and spoke to Apple Tech Support on the phone about it, who just advised me to wait until the next upgrade, or use an alternative media burner. I just burned a cd which was 1 hour 18 minutes and 4 seconds which seems to be the new limit, whereas previously I could take it up to 1 hour 19 minutes and maybe 30 seconds on top of that. Over that has always been a problem, which is fair enough, but this is a new thing!

Thanks for the input, but 12.7.3.46 didn't fix the problem. Actually, I'm pretty much convinced that this version IS the problem.

I reinstalled 12.7.3.46. And I can still only get 70 minutes to burn on a 80 minute CD-R. The only difference between the previous playlist of 79 minutes and the revised playlist (i.e., speed of 12x is the same, gaps are exactly the same at "none") is that I had to cut out 10 minutes worth of songs to get it to burn onto the CD.

Same PC. Same burner. Same CD-R media. Same playlist. Only thing that changed from the three previous successful 79 minute burns was the 12.7.3.46.

Anyone know when the next iTunes fix will be available?

Duane, I used maximum speed and a good Maxell brand of blank cd. No gaps, no sound check, and the track list box was unchecked. But I USED to get up to 1 hour 19 minutes plus up to 30 seconds of music on a disc, so I still firmly believe I am still affected by the latest iTunes problems. I'm not convinced speed of burning is an issue, or brand of cd! Really looking forward to the next update and this being sorted out!

Thank you, tt2. The Troublingshooting site is awesome! That said, I don't feel capable enough to go through the steps to delete all the programs outlined to uninstall the 12.7.3.46 and reinstall the prior 12.7.2.60 version. I'm afraid that I'll screw something up and won't be able to figure out what it was and how to fix it.

It's better that I wait until the next 12.7.x.x comes up and hope that it fixes the 7.3.46 problem.
