How can I change my MacBook icon?

Have you tried opening the icon image that you want to use as hard drive icon

in Preview and then Copy it from there? ~ This seems to have been a change in

Mac OS X after Tiger 10.4.11; and works to only Paste a new icon into a folder

or HDD, etc (use Get Info, only when pasting new one) from Leopard 10.5.8 on.

[Years ago I had a nice utility that allowed me to make tiny pictures on the folders.

It was fairly nice. And was prior MacOS 9.2.2 in 'vintage obsolete' configurations.]

Works on almost any folder - or hard drive - to change the icon.

So that should be workable, to 'Copy from Preview' and 'Paste via Get Info' window.

The older method was nice, and reliable; didn't require anything other than Finder.

Knew a small business whose PowerMac G4 DP-MDD tower ran more than one HDD

and the owners named each drive/partion and gave them cartoon image icons...

For awhile they toyed a variety of names and iconography. I remember 'helga' and her

viking consort, with tiny images. ~ Whichever one was running the Mac, the other was

beneath, when icons were on the Mac desktop.

if you can't do it but should then boot from some other external device and do it.

What icon are you referring to?
