Hi, what I really want is an iPod Nano for my son's birthday but I can't buy one of those any more. I don't want him to have access to games, apps etc on his own device so I'm looking for alternatives. If I buy something like a Sony Walkman NW-A35L, can I get the family iTunes content onto it? I'm using a new MacBook Air for iTunes and everything else so no PCs in the house. Thanks!

Purchased music from iTunes Store hasn't had DRM protection for the past 5 or 6 years or so. If you have really old purchases they may have this and they may say 'protected' in the kind column of the track in iTunes (or Get Info). If you have those it is possible to upgrade to iTunes Plus with a one year subscription to iTunes Match.

You should be able to transfer your music but I suggest that you checkout compatibly with Sony's support site.

Taking Jim's sensible advice, the Sony website says that I will be able to transfer music from iTunes as long as the content doesn't have copyright protection. Does content bought through iTunes have copyright protection, do you know? I imagine it might.
