CleanMyMac, MacKeeper, TuneUpMyMac, Clean Mac, all of those are terrible for your machine. There isn't any "cleaning" software out there that will actually do good for your computer. If you are wanting some type of anti-virus/anti-malware program, that would be different, but you do not need a cleaning software. There are hundreds and hundreds of threads in this forum about how bad these are. Stay away from them.

Please post the EtreCheck output as a "Reply" to this thread

Use the EtreCheck -> Edit -> Copy Report (See the image below)
And then Paste the report as a "Reply" to this thread.
If, AND ONLY IF, you get the error:

EtreCheck is a tool that helps Apple Support Community volunteers debug problems without any access to the troubled computers. Debugging problems can be a difficult task even when the machine is in front of you. Attempting it via a discussion forum is extremely difficult. EtreCheck is a great help that regards.

You should also try an SMC reset and an NVRAM reset (Unlikely to do much of anything, but it will not hurt, and once in awhile it actually does something useful)

No. It's garbage.
Thank you for your helpful advice, I'm new to the community and thought I would reach out to get some advice. I have a 17" MacBook Pro (mid 2009) running OS X El Capitan ver 10.11.6, and just about everything I do I encounter this spinning beach ball. So I started looking around the internet to find what was available to attempt to correct this condition.
I was in total agreement with you until you slipped in the bit about anti-virus software. Personally I see it as even more dangerous then the cleaning software. I have lost count of how many times I have been called in to fix a problem on a Mac only to discover anti-virus software has been installed. Uninstalling the anti-virus software has cleared up the problems.
I agree 99% of the time, but there are AVs that I have used that have no effect on Mac performance, even in a live-monitoring mode type of scan. Malwarebytes for Mac and ClamXAV have been excellent pieces of software. Things like Norton, Sophos, McAfee, etc, etc, I think do harm to machines, but Malwarebytes or ClamXAV will catch software like MacKeeper, and tell you to uninstall it because of the effect it has on a machine.
Edit: The reason I said, "that would be different," is because I have found that those programs actually work, whereas I have yet to find a piece of "cleaning" software that actually does what it claims to do.
I felt your original comment was so general so as to make it work. If you would have stated it the way it did the second time I would have let slide. But such a positive statement about AV software I felt could be miss construed.
No.
Your machine doesn't need it.
Please explain why you think you need a Mac cleaner?
Maybe there is a better solution to the problem you are trying to solve?
