ScanSnap Manager crashing constantly

Hi,

I've got a ScanSnap IX500 that was perfectly fine until its most recent update from Fujitsu via AOUpdater (early Dec last year). Ever since, ScanSnap Manager will crash instantly as soon as it attempts to start. I've done both an automatic and manual uninstall of all the Fujitsu/PFU/ScanSnap software and files and clean installed several times to no avail. My mac mini is currently running 10.13.3, but the behaviour was the same under previous versions of macOS after the AOUpdater grabbed the latest update for ScanSnap in Dec last year.

The scanner itself is fine, as I installed the software on a Windows machine and the software and device function as expected.

I tried to post the actual crash I receive but it was flagged as invalid characters in the editor. Any help is greatly appreciated, I really don't want to use the scanner on the Windows machine as the mac is my daily driver.

Thanks,

John

ix500 is not an old scanner - it's still very much a current model.

For anyone curious, this was caused by a leftover plugin file from the webcam utility CamTwist. Removing the file /Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-In/DAL/CamTwist.plugin resolves the issue.

Talk to the ScanSnap developers. This is not likely a macOS issue. ScanSnap stopped support on those older scanners. I have one but not the same model as yours. The last working software was from another company. FscanX was the name of the app. But I don't know if it still works. The Home Edition is less expensive.

You can also look at VueScan to see if it will work for you.
