BTW, microfiber cloths can be picked up at any sunglass shop in your local mall - they're around $5 US, cheaper than the optomotrists (well, cheaper than mine, in any case - YMMV). Excellent for cleaning glossy surfaces and glasses.

I cleaned sharpie off of my old Dell laptop's screen with an antistatic cleaning wipe (from Endust, I believe - designed for cleaning electronics, and safe for LCD screens). I cleaned it VERY soon after getting it on the screen, however.

White board cleaner will leave a nasty film on the
screen that will be REALLY hard to remove.

Actually, I agree with that. I left out what I considered a common-sense step. We follow-up on our cleanings with the microfibre cloth and a bit of water.

Marx-a-lots and Sharpies are a teacher's enemy in a classroom that has notebook computers and computer monitors. We have to do annual monitor cleanings.

Anyway, I still suggest giving it a try, as I stated in the first letter, on a corner of the screen. Works for us. If anyone wants to see this in action, our training center is just off a major interstate highway and I'll be happy to demonstrate. Just contact me. I'm north of Houston.

Suspicious, indeed. 😉

This, from this page of the BASF site:
This effect can be achieved on a wide variety of surfaces such as tiles, ceramic stovetops, ceramics, doors, leather seats and automobile wheel rims - and all without adding detergent. A little water is all that is needed to moisten the Magic Eraser. Even the most ingrained dirt cannot resist the glass hard microstructure of melamine resin. Only surfaces liable to scratching and varnished surfaces should not be cleaned with the "magician".

I got sharpie on an LED screen once, so I tried the following and it worked:

Get a dry-erase marker such as an Expo, and use it on the sharpie marks. It may seem counter-intuitive to put MORE marker on your screen, but trust me. You'll immediately be able to wipe everything away with a damp paper towel or wet-wipe or one of those pricey computer screen wet-wipes. There's some kinda chemical in the dry-erase marker that makes that possible.

This also works for getting permanent marker off of whiteboards. Good luck.
