Apple Watch says it is connected, but will not communicate with iPhone

My wife has an Apple Watch Series 1 and an iPhone 6. Both on the latest OS releases. The Watch has been working properly syncing since we got it spring of 2017, and at some point in January 2018 stopped communicating with the iPhone. Was this after an iOS or watchOS update? Cannot recall, because she didn't immediately notice she didn't have a connection.

To be clear, the Watch is not displaying "no connection" icons like the red phone with a line through it. According to the Watch, it is connected to the iPhone.

All of the support articles and posts I've seen in these forums suggest when the phone and watch don't speak, these are displayed. We of course have seen them in the past when she was genuinely away from the phone and there was no WiFi or Bluetooth connections. But that is not the case right now. The watch does not exchange texts or phone calls, or any notifications from the phone. Somehow, the weather widget and Dark Sky show weather data. I can't be sure that data is or is not cached.

The Phone and Watch both have all radios enabled. WiFi and Bluetooth. Airplane mode is not enabled.

I have restarted both numerous times.

I have reset the iPhone's network settings. (This is not an option on the Watch.)

I am looking for some idea, anything to avoid wiping the watch (Reset) because it has a month of her Workout data that I really don't want to lose. But I may be out of options.

What non-destructive ideas do you all have for reestablishing communications between her Apple Watch Series 1 and her iPhone 6?

Thank you.

Hi

Follow the instructions here, if necessary including unpairing and re-pairing the Apple Watch - including if the devices indicate that they are connected, but are not behaving accordingly:

If unpairing and re-pairing is necessary in order to reestablish connectivity, then I'm afraid that the Activity data that has not yet synced will be lost - there are no other options.

I am, as previously advised:

If unpairing and re-pairing is necessary in order to reestablish connectivity (ie after following the other suggestions in the linked support article), then I'm afraid that the Activity data that has not yet synced will be lost - there are no other options.

If you believe that you have encountered a software bug and you would like to submit feedback to Apple, then you can do so here:

Jonathan,

These are all the articles I read prior to creating this post. None of them answer my question, hence creating this post.

It sounds like you are confirming that there are no other options, in your opinion/experience. Reset appears to have helped this fellow, whom you replied to the other day—also with an iPhone 6 — Apple Watch update cause notifications to stop.I really wish that post had come up in my prior forum searches. It sounds like we've both been bitten by this bug. I hope Apple is monitoring this forum for bug reports.

Thank you.
