Cannot add certain contacts in group text

Hi

I'm trying to send a group text. When I click on the 'add contact' button and scroll through my contacts, I can click on some people's names and they are added into the 'to' field straight away, but for others, it won't let me add them. For these people, it just opens up their contact card from my contacts so I can see their details but I can't click on anything to add them to the group text. It's very frustrating. I'm hoping its not to do with some people not having i-message - I tried turing iMessage off but this doesn't seem to fix the problem. Thank you for any help.

iPhone SE, iOS 11.2.5

Hi Mapple1234 ,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. To send a group MMS message on an iPhone, make sure MMS Messaging is turned on. Go to Settings > Messages and turn on MMS Messaging. If you don’t see an option to turn on MMS Messaging or Group Messaging, contact your carrier to see if your plan supports Group MMS Messaging.

Hmm that's strange alright !

You could try a few different things to help resolve this issue .

Firstly i would check and make sure that all the contacts that you are unable to add are definitely associated with a phone number and are not blank or only contain an email .

Then I would backup your iphone to your computer and restore the device to its original settings .

This should give your device a fresh start in case there is a small bug in the system . If this works than you can restore the backup and this will activate all the original settings again .

Thank you Oisin. The issue I have however is that I can add some contacts but not others. And I don't know why this is the case?
