I was hoping to backup my MacBook Pro (running Yosemite) by dragging and dropping a group of important files, and I saw the files transferring over. But now when I look for my files on my Mac, they are not there, and they aren't show on iCloud either! Please help!

Has the sync completed? Do you have a backup you can restore from?
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library/Mobile Documents. Are the files there?
iCloud is not a backup solution - you need a local backup using Time Machine
