Is there a way to download videos from you tube on an iMac the way you can on a windows machine with real player?
Youtube specifically disallows all downloads in their terms of use (unless there is a download button by the video) - it is a copyright issue.
Just to add, if you subscribe to YouTube Red, there are videos you can download. I haven't tried it myself because I don't want to pay $9.95 a month.
Interesting, I didn't know that (and wouldn't pay for it either) - that isn't mentioned in their ToS, but then they now have a clickable link in there for "paid service". Here is the paragraph I was referring to (mostly for the OP):
