Are Apple Pay Transactions considered cash advance transactions by credit card companies?

Fees can apply for senders, but only under certain circumstances.


There are no fees for the sender except when:


As the sender, you use a credit card to fund an Apple Pay Cash transfer.

  • In this case, a 3% fee applies, which is paid by the sender.
  • This fee does not apply when using a debit card or an existing Apple Pay Cash balance.


You use an Apple Pay Cash Card to make a purchase with a merchant who is located outside of the US.

  • In this case, a 3% fee applies, paid by the sender.


Your card issuer may also apply a separate fee (this might be described, for example, as a cash advance fee) when sending payments via Apple Pay Cash using a credit card - this has been the experience of other users.


If you plan to use a credit card in conjunction with Apple Pay Cash, then I suggest that you contact your card issuer for details of any applicable charges.
