apple watch calendar default alert

Is there any way I can set a default alert for calendar events created directly in the Apple Watch or enable it to pick up the current setting on my iPhone.

I have my apple watch set to "mirror iPhone" but when the event is created using the watch, neither will have my default alert.

I remember that this was not the case a couple of software version updates ago, and this was one of the "killer features" for me.

I've already:

• turned both off
• restarted both
• unpaired and paired again
• switched apple watch to custom calendar and then back to "mirror iPhone"
