My dictation no longer works

I never can get a reply to my speech. The mic shows when I call for it. My MacBook hears me because the volume level bounces with my inflection. But I never receive a reply to what I say. It was okay before the update. Does anyone else have this problem? What am I doing wrong or what should I do about it?

Dictation on a Macbook Pro Dictation on my 2018 MacBook Pro simply doesn't work. I have followed the directions to start dictation several times but nothing works. I did talk to the Apple Help person and he helped with some strange combinations of Keystrokes that apparently reset everything and the dictation worked briefly but stopped working again almost immediately. Help?

Dictation Not Working (Jan 3, 2021, Big Sur) I used to be able to press my function key 2X and a dictation mic comes up on a page where I want to dictate. Im trying this in 2 different apps including Apple Notes and I can get the icon that says it's active but nothing happens when I talk. Any ideas what might be going on?
