Re registering a pre owned iPod nano 3

I need to re register an iPod nano 3rd generation which belonged to my late nephew. I am an Apple user so already have an Apple I.D. but can't figure out the process. Any help greatly appreciated.

You don't need to register it. It doesn't get associated to an Apple ID. You can restore the device and set it up as new.

Thanks, that has worked fine. I was trying to save the media on it but couldn't do so as none of the family had the Apple id details needed to buy off iTunes so the bought items have been lost. I copied the content into a file on my Mac before carrying out the restore, in case I find a way to do this later. Thanks once again for your help, really appreciated.
