Apple Watch doesn’t go into Silent mode anymore when iPhone is put into Silent mode

I have asked my friends and they all think I am going crazy but I know my AW went into silent mode on its own whenever I put my iPhone into silent mode. When you put your iPhone into Airplane mode your AW goes into Airplane mode, go ahead, try it. So it’s logical your AW would do the same thing for silent mode and I know it used but I wiped my watch the other day (because of random restarts it kept doing ) and ever since the restore it doesn’t go into silent mode anymore by itself. Has anyone else noticed this?

On a different note it would be nice that once your brought your iPhone out of Airplane mode your AW would do the same. Same with silent mode. I would always forget to bring my AW out of silent mode, after it had went into silent mode when I put my iPhone in silent mode.

Hi

Silent Mode

Turning Silent Mode on or off is not mirrored across your Apple Watch and iPhone and never has been.

You may instead be thinking of Do Not Disturb Mode. Your Apple Watch and iPhone can be configured such that enabling that mode on one device also enables it on the other.

This mirroring setting also applies to scheduled operation of Do Not Disturb mode on your iPhone, which you may have enabled (such as to cover the hours when you are usually sleeping):

  • On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > General > Do Not Disturb - turn on / off Mirror iPhone.
  • On your iPhone, go to: Settings > Do Not Disturb - turn on Scheduled to set your preferred times.

Airplane Mode

It is possible for turning on Airplane Mode to be mirrored between devices, but the same does and cannot apply for turning off Airplane Mode, which must be done separately on each.

When your Apple Watch is in Airplane Mode, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are disabled, so there is no way for your Apple Watch to receive an instruction from your iPhone to disable the mode - and vice versa.

To change the setting for mirroring the turning on of Airplane Mode:

On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > General > Airplane Mode - enable or disable Mirror iPhone, as preferred.

To turn on / off Airplane Mode on your Apple Watch:
