Setting for audio I/O buffer size?

I found Mac OS 10.13.2 Update Audio Breaks and saw that there was no answer and the thread was locked, which made me sad.

However, I discovered today that if you run Logic Pro X and tweak the I/O buffer in Preferences, it seems to affect the entire system, and this works around the crackling issues with my USB DAC (same as the issue linked above). I turned up the buffer size to 256 and everything's been super smooth since.

Is there a convenient terminal command or preference somewhere to change the system audio I/O buffer size without launching Logic?

iMac Pro (2017), macOS High Sierra (10.13.3)
