Why doesn't Safari search work?

On my iMac, when I type in something like "ethereum smart contracts" (without quotes) into Safari's address bar, instead of googling the term, Safari displays a can't open page because it thinks I'm trying to type in a URL. My Macbook doesn't have this problem. It use to work fine on the iMac as well.

Any one know what might have changed in Safari or what I should check?
